Tibet

Few words on Tibet

For centuries Tibet has remained a mysterious land, cut off from the rest of the world by the mighty Himalayas. Tibet was opened to the rest of the world only in 1985. Despite modernisation it has retained the beauties of its past, such as the fascinating Gompas, wandering nomads, ancient markets, and its amazing turquoise lakes. To see an exotic place like Tibet before modern changes take place is a unique experience.

A journey to Tibet is a rare opportunity to see and do things not possible elsewhere. Except in Lhasa and few other places life is still like what it used to be a hundred years ago. To visit ancient monasteries with hundreds of monks chanting, to mix up with the religious people in Bharkor bazaar, meet the nomadic herdsmen and pilgrims, to see the stunning views of the world’s highest mountains and travel on the world's highest plain, all make a Tibet trip an unforgettable experience.

At Great Holidays P. Ltd we have been operating cultural tours and trekking in Tibet for many years now. In our classic overland trips we take you to the exploration of the famous Tashilhump Monastery at Shigatse, the historic town of Gyantse, the old Bon Po Monastery at Sakya and the beautiful lake of Yamdrok Tso.

In Lhasa the Potala Palace, Drepung and Sera  Monastery, Barkhor market and the holy Jokhang Temple are just a few of the fascinating sights we will take you to .All our tours and treks start from or end in Lhasa , unless you want it otherwise.

Treks to Mt. Everest base camp will certainly be the highlight of our trip. From Everest Base Camp you can enjoy an uninhibited view of the beckoning north face of the top of the world as well as of the amazing Rongbuk Glacier. A visit to the Rongbuk monastery is an essential part of any trip to this area. Another lovely and popular trek in Tibet is the Ganden to Samye Monastery trek.

Our trip to Mt. Kailash gives you the unforgettable opportunity to circumambulate the holy mountain and visit the serene Lake Manasarovar. This area is one of the remotest yet popular tourist destinations on the world.

Some tourists are disappointed with the accommodations, guides and food services available in Tibet. As tourism industry is new to Tibet and many things are in government control there is little we can help. While this is only the occasional case and we always try to provide the best of the services available, we simply want you to be forewarned. Of ten people have better experience, if they know what to expect.
